Linda is the State Labor Member for Kurwongbah, Queensland, having been elected to Parliament in 1997. Prior to entering Parliament, Linda was a solicitor. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. As well as her Parliamentary duties, Linda has held positions on a number of committees, including:
Chair of the Investigation into Altruistic Surrogacy Committee
Chair of the Scrutiny of Legislation Committee
Chair of the Queensland Graffiti Taskforce
Chair of the Queensland Fishing Industry Development Council
Chair of the Special Committee to inquire into the operation of Tenancy Databases (this led to reforms to the Residential Tenancies Act)
Deputy Chair of the Queensland Small Business Advisory Council
Member of the Ethics and Parliamentary Privileges Committee
Member of the Parliamentary Ethics Committee
Member of the Queensland University of Technology Council
Member of the Select Committee on the Consequences of changing Political Status
Linda was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for State Development and Innovation from February 2004 until March 2005, paying particular attention to the area of Innovation. In March 2005, Linda was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Energy and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy.
In July 2005, Linda was promoted to the Queensland Cabinet as the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and served in that position until October 2006. Linda was the first woman Attorney-General in the history of the Queensland Parliament.
